Troubleshooting CMiC Integration Error: Change in Compensation; Start Date Cannot Match the Hire Date

Issue

When running a Core HR to CMiC data sync, you may see this error:

"A change in compensation was detected for [Employee ID], but the Start Date cannot match the Employee Hire Date on CMiC to prevent overwriting historical records. Please change the start date on source system and run the sync again."

This error will stop compensation updates from syncing to CMiC.

Cause

  • This error occurs for CMiC users who are not on patch 21 or later of CMiC’s API.
  • The sync detected a compensation update where the compensation start date matches the hire date.
  • For users on older patches, this creates a risk of overwriting all historical compensation data in CMiC, so the system blocks the update to protect data integrity.

Users on patch 21 or later of CMiC’s API should not see this error.

Resolution

If you are below patch 21, follow these steps to resolve the error:

  1. Log in to Core HR
  2. Search for and open the employee record.
  3. Navigate to the Compensation section
  4. Edit the compensation record that triggered the error
  5. Update the Start Date to be after the employee’s hire or rehire date
  6. Save your changes

After Resolution

The error will automatically clear, and the compensation update will sync successfully on the next scheduled data sync.
