ExakTime Mobile is a time tracking app used by your employees, which syncs with ExakTime Connect. While ExakTime Connect requires an internet connection to function, ExakTime Mobile does not require a constant internet connection to function. Ideally, we would want constant and consistent internet function to utilize all the features of ExakTime Mobile, but we understand that the dynamics of work sites may hinder that.
Some key features will require an internet connection to function, such as editing a time card. Other features/functions need periodic internet access to send any unsent data (i.e., time punches, field notes, form responses, etc.) and receive any new information from ExakTime Connect (i.e., new locations, setting changes, etc.). Keep in mind that the capability of some features will be impacted (i.e., GeoFence Violation notifications, TeamView, etc.)
If your employees are in situations/locations where a consistent internet connection is not available, it may be best to plan around such situations. For example, you may want your employees to sync their copies of ExakTime Mobile when they have internet, such as before and after their workday. While these types of situations may delay receiving your employee's punches, form responses, field notes, etc., it ensures that you receive the data and do not need to check in with your employees.
What About Employee Time Punches?
One of the most common concerns about ExakTime Mobile is whether employees will still be able to record their time punches if they have no internet. The short answer is yes. As long as the employees complete their clock in/out and see the "Successful" screen, their time punch has been recorded. After it is recorded, if ExakTime Mobile is unable to immediately send the clock in/out, the time punch will be stored. ExakTime Mobile will send any unsent punches on the next opportunity when it tries to send records or during a sync. As long as your employees are clocking in/out and completing the process, you should receive them once the mobile device regains access to the internet, and ExakTime Mobile can sync/send the data.
