Can I Disable The GeoFence for a Location?

The GeoFence is a digital fence that determines the work area of a location. It helps drive other features of ExakTime, such as, but not limited to:

  • Indicating if a device was on-site when clocking in or out.
  • Warning or restricting employees when trying to clock in while outside the GeoFence of a location.
  • Alerting employees tracked with GeoTrakker if they are leaving the GeoFence of a location.
  • Alert supervisors if an employee clocked in/out while outside the GeoFence for a location.

After a GeoFence has been created for a location, the GeoFence cannot be removed or disabled. Once coordinates have populated a location, either automatically or manually, they will stay populated. Removing/deleting the latitude and longitude will not work either, as the coordinates will repopulate the related fields when saving the location.

Alternative Option

While you cannot remove or disable the GeoFence for a location, you can consider changing the GeoFence to "0" for a location to effectively "remove" it. Keep in mind, however, that setting the GeoFence to "0" can have adverse effects on other features, such as:

  • Employees are not able to clock in to a location if the GeoFence Restrictions are enabled, as the employee will never be in a location.
  • False "Negative" indicators or alerts, as the employee will always be considered outside of the GeoFence.

In these instances, it may be more important to consider why you want to remove/disable the GeoFence for a location. For example, if you want only specific employees to receive GeoFence Warnings or Restrictions, consider creating an ExakTime Mobile Security Role for those specific employees.
