Spectrum Troubleshooting: Connector Configuration Missing or Invalid

Viewpoint Spectrum needs a set of connection details before it can talk to Spectrum at all, things like the service address, sign-in ID, and Info-Link database name. This message means one of those details is blank or was never entered. Nothing synced. The sync stopped before Arcoro looked at a single employee, union, or job record, because the connector cannot even open a connection without that value.

See the table below for which configuration and direction each setting belongs to.The named connector setting has no saved value, or its saved value is empty or only whitespace.Sync stopped.Enter a value for the named setting on the connector configuration screen, then re-run the sync.

Which Setting Is Named in the Message

The message always names exactly one setting. Ten distinct setting names can appear in the quoted part of this message for Viewpoint Spectrum. Which one appears tells you which configuration you are running and which screen to check, because the two Viewpoint Spectrum configurations use different property names for similar-sounding settings.

Setting name as it appears in the messageWhich configuration uses itWhat it is for
Company CodesBoth configurations: Default Configuration (Arcoro to Spectrum, write) and Spectrum for Time Configuration (Spectrum to Arcoro Time, read)The comma-separated list of Spectrum company codes the sync should use, for example 100,101.
Spectrum Service UrlDefault Configuration only (write)The Spectrum service endpoint used to authenticate and to look up deduction and addon codes before writing the export file.
Spectrum Authorization IDDefault Configuration only (write)The authorization ID configured in Spectrum for the Data Exchange service, used alongside the Spectrum Service Url.
Service UrlSpectrum for Time Configuration only (read)The same kind of Spectrum service endpoint as Spectrum Service Url above, but this configuration's connector field is simply named Service Url.
Authorization IDSpectrum for Time Configuration only (read)The Spectrum Data Exchange authorization ID for this configuration's connector field, named Authorization ID rather than Spectrum Authorization ID.
Server NameSpectrum for Time Configuration only (read)The Info-Link database server name, used to read data directly from Spectrum's Info-Link database.
User NameSpectrum for Time Configuration only (read)The Info-Link user name defined in Spectrum under Info-Link User Security Maintenance.
PasswordSpectrum for Time Configuration only (read)The Info-Link password for the same Info-Link user. This password should always be secure.
Database NameSpectrum for Time Configuration only (read)The Info-Link database name, usually Spectrum_<Company>.
Cost Codes import optionsSpectrum for Time Configuration only (read)The dropdown that selects whether cost codes are imported as Cost Type, Phase, or both. This one is required even though its label looks optional.

Confirming the Error

  1. Open the sync execution for the affected connector in Sync History.
  2. Open the step for the Viewpoint Spectrum connector.
  3. Check the Failures column for that step. For this family, the signature is a non-zero Failures count with no entities showing counts in Added, Updated, or Unchanged, because the sync stopped in setup before any entity was read or written. Errors, Warnings, and Information will also be at zero for the same reason.
  4. Open the failure detail and read the message text. It reads "Viewpoint Spectrum Provider could not read the configuration setting '[setting name]'."
  5. Match the quoted setting name exactly against the Setting name column in the table above. The exact wording tells you which configuration and which connector field to check next, since several names look alike but are not the same field.

Resolving the Error

  1. Confirm which configuration the connector is running: Default Configuration (Arcoro to Spectrum) or Spectrum for Time Configuration (Spectrum to Arcoro Time). The setting name from the message table above tells you this.
  2. Open the connector's configuration screen in Arcoro (Add/Edit Connector) for that connector.
  3. Find the field matching the setting name exactly as it appeared in the message, using the table above to avoid checking a similarly named field that belongs to the other configuration.
  4. Enter the correct value. For Password and Spectrum Authorization ID, obtain the value from your Spectrum administrator; do not guess it or ask for it to be read aloud and recorded elsewhere.
  5. Save the connector configuration.
  6. Re-run the sync and confirm the step no longer shows a Failure, and that entities now show counts in Added, Updated, or Unchanged.

When to Escalate

If any of the following occur, you may need to reach out to Arcoro support for additional assistance.

  • The named setting already has a value saved on the configuration screen and the message still appears after saving and re-running.
  • The quoted setting name does not match any row in the table above.
  • You do not have a Spectrum Authorization ID, Info-Link user, or Info-Link password to provide, and needs help obtaining one from their Spectrum administrator.
  • The value is entered correctly but the sync still fails immediately in setup, which points to a connectivity or credential problem rather than a missing setting; see the connector auth or connection failure article.
