Payroll Integration Troubleshooting: Union, Classification, Workers Comp, Occupation

These three messages all come from the union and labor classification services in Arcoro Payroll. One occurs while reading a union out of Arcoro Payroll because its name is blank. The other two fire while writing a union or a labor classification into Arcoro Payroll because two records in the same sync run share the same name. In every case the affected record is left out of that sync run, not the whole entity.

A union read can also fail with a different, generic duplicate-name message when two unions in Arcoro Payroll already share a name before either one is written anywhere. That message is shared with the location read path and is documented in Payroll Integration Troubleshooting: Department, Location, Facility, Job, Cost Code, Position.

Error Messages

Message text Direction Occurs when Outcome Fix
Union Name is a required field. Read (out of Arcoro Payroll) The union record in Arcoro Payroll has no value, or only blank space, in its Name field. Whole record skipped. The union is not read into the sync at all. Add a name to the union record in Arcoro Payroll, then rerun the sync.
Union '[union name]' has been sent to Payroll multiple times. Only the first Union with this name will be saved. Correct the source data and run the sync again. Write (into Arcoro Payroll) Two or more union records in the same sync run have the same name, matched without regard to upper or lower case. This check runs after the union has already passed its own required-field checks. Whole record skipped. Only one of the matching unions is saved. Because writes can run at the same time, the one that is kept is whichever one the sync happens to process first, not necessarily the first one listed in the source system. In the connector's source system, rename or deactivate one of the duplicate unions so each union name is unique.
A Labor Classification with Name: '[ID: labor classification name]' has been sent to Payroll multiple times. Only the first Labor Classification with this Name will be saved. Correct the source data and run the sync again. Write (into Arcoro Payroll) Two or more labor classification records in the same sync run have the same name, matched without regard to upper or lower case. This check runs after the labor classification has already passed its own required-field checks. Whole record skipped. Only one of the matching labor classifications is saved. As with unions, the one kept is whichever one the sync happens to process first. In the connector's source system, rename or deactivate one of the duplicate labor classifications so each name is unique.

The Union Name is a required field message does not include a name or any other identifying text, because the record has no name to show. In the sync log, the entity row for this message is identified by the union's internal system ID number instead of a name. Use that ID to look the record up in Arcoro Payroll if the name alone does not point to a specific union.

Confirming the Error

  1. Open the sync execution for your connector in Sync History.
  2. Find the step that runs this Arcoro Payroll connector.
  3. Locate the Union row, or the Labor Classification row for the labor classification message, in that step.
  4. Check the Errors column for that row. All three messages in this article are logged as errors, so they add to the Errors count, not to Warnings, Information, or Failures.
  5. Open the errors list for that row and match on the fixed wording of the sentence, for example "has been sent to Payroll multiple times," not on the name shown in quotes.
  6. A non-zero Failures count on the Union or Labor Classification row is not one of these three messages. It means something more serious stopped the sync for that entity, so treat it separately and consider escalating.

Resolving the Error

Missing Union Name

  1. In Arcoro Payroll, open the union record named in the sync log entry (identified by its internal ID if the name is blank).
  2. Add a name to the union.
  3. Save the record in Arcoro Payroll.
  4. Rerun the sync and confirm the union no longer appears in the Errors list for that row.

Duplicate Union or Labor Classification Names

  1. Identify the connector's configured source system, the system that feeds this Arcoro Payroll connector.
  2. In that source system, find the two or more records that share the exact same name (case differences do not count as different).
  3. Rename one of the duplicates, or deactivate the one that should not sync, so every name is unique.
  4. Rerun the sync and confirm both the kept and the corrected record now appear in Arcoro Payroll as expected, and that the row no longer shows this error.

When to Escalate

If any of the following occur, you may need to reach out to Arcoro support for additional assistance.

  • The duplicate error keeps appearing after confirming no two active records share the same name in the source system.
  • The log text does not match any of the three sentences in this article.
  • The Union or Labor Classification row shows a non-zero Failures count instead of, or in addition to, Errors.
  • You cannot find the union by the internal ID shown in the log.
