Payroll needs a complete, internally consistent set of direct deposit records for an employee before it will create or update any bank accounts or pay splits for that employee. If any single deposit is missing a required field, or the group of deposits as a whole breaks a priority or amount and percentage rule, Payroll withholds the entire group rather than guessing at a partial split. The rest of the employee record, including address, taxes, compensation, and benefits, still syncs normally. Only the direct deposit and banking information is left out until the source data is fixed and the sync is run again.
These checks only look at the deposits considered for this run: deposits marked active, whose effective and expiration dates include today, capped at the first 6 by priority order if the employee has more than 6. The Start Date check is the one exception and looks at every deposit sent for the employee, including inactive or expired ones, before that filtering happens. This family also only applies when the Direct Deposits scope is enabled on the connector, the employee is active (not terminated) in the source system, and the source sent at least one direct deposit record for the employee; none of these twelve messages fire otherwise.
Error Messages
| Message text | Direction | Occurs when | Outcome | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Direct deposits must have a start date. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | At least one direct deposit sent for the employee has no value in the Effective/Start Date field. This check runs on every deposit sent for the employee, including inactive or expired ones, before the active/expiration filtering described above is applied. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Set a Start Date on every direct deposit for the employee in the source system, including any inactive or expired ones still present on the record. |
| Direct deposits must have an account type. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | Among the deposits considered for this run, at least one has no Account Type value. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Set an Account Type on every direct deposit considered for this run in the source system. |
| Direct deposits must have an account number and routing number. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | Among the deposits considered for this run, at least one is missing its Account Number, its Routing Number, or both. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Enter both the Account Number and the Routing Number for every direct deposit considered for this run in the source system. |
| Direct deposits must have an amount or percentage. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | Among the deposits considered for this run, at least one has neither an Amount nor a Percentage greater than zero. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Enter an Amount or a Percentage greater than zero for every direct deposit considered for this run in the source system. |
| Direct deposits must have a priority. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | Among the deposits considered for this run, at least one has no Priority value. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Set a Priority value on every direct deposit considered for this run in the source system. |
| Direct deposit priorities must be sequential starting at 1. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | Among the deposits considered for this run, ordered by priority, the Priority values do not run 1, 2, 3, and so on with no gaps or repeats. This check only runs after every deposit already has an Account Type, Account Number and Routing Number, Amount or Percentage, and Priority value, since it assumes all deposits are already complete. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Renumber the Priority values in the source system so they run 1, 2, 3, and so on with no gaps or repeats, in the order the deposits should be processed. |
| All direct deposits must have the same deposit type, either all percentages or all flat amounts with a Full Amount (Net) account. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | Among the deposits considered for this run, at least one uses a flat Amount, and at least one other uses a Percentage that is greater than 0% but not equal to 100%. A deposit at exactly 100% (Full Amount/Net) does not count toward this check, since combining flat amounts with one Full Amount/Net deposit is the expected pattern. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | In the source system, set up either all percentage-based deposits with one Full Amount/Net deposit, or all flat-amount deposits with one Full Amount/Net deposit. Do not mix flat amounts with partial percentages. |
| The employee has multiple Full Amount (Net) direct deposits but only one is allowed. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and try again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | More than one of the deposits considered for this run has a Percentage of exactly 100% (marked Full Amount/Net). | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | In the source system, mark only one of the employee's direct deposits as Full Amount/Net (100%). |
| Direct deposits for a Full Amount (Net) must have the lowest priority. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | One of the deposits considered for this run is marked Full Amount/Net (100%), but its Priority value is not the highest number in the sequence, meaning it is not last. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | In the source system, give the Full Amount/Net (100%) deposit the last Priority number so it is processed after every other deposit. |
| Direct deposit percentages must sum to 100%. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | None of the deposits considered for this run uses a flat Amount, none is marked Full Amount/Net (100%), and the Percentage values across all of them do not add up to exactly 100%. This check is skipped entirely if any deposit uses a flat Amount, or if one deposit is already marked Full Amount/Net. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Correct the deposit Percentage values in the source system so they add up to exactly 100%. |
| Direct deposit percentages must sum to less than 100% when there is a Full Amount (Net) deposit. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | None of the deposits considered for this run uses a flat Amount, one of them is marked Full Amount/Net (100%), and the Percentage values across all of them, including that 100%, add up to 200% or more. In effect, the non-Net deposits alone add up to 100% or more on top of the Net deposit. This check only runs when a Full Amount/Net deposit is present; without one, the sum-to-100% check above applies instead. | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Correct the deposit Percentage values in the source system so the non-Net deposits total under 100%, keeping the combined total under 200% once the Full Amount/Net deposit is included. |
| When using amounts for direct deposits a Full Amount (Net) is required. Correct the direct deposits in the source system and execute the sync again. | Arcoro to Payroll (write) | At least one of the deposits considered for this run uses a flat Amount, and none of them is marked Full Amount/Net (100%). | Collection skipped. All of this employee's direct deposits for this run are withheld from Payroll; the employee record and its other scopes still sync. | Add a Full Amount/Net (100%) deposit in the source system whenever any deposit for the employee uses a flat Amount. |
None of these twelve messages name the employee, the bank, or the account. Each message is logged against that specific employee's own row for the sync run, identified in the sync log by the employee's FriendlyIdentifier, a human-readable key built from the employee's identifier and name that the platform attaches to every record for traceability. Open the employee's row in the errors list to confirm which employee and which run the message belongs to.
Confirming the Error
- Open Sync History and find the sync execution for the date and time in question.
- Open the step for the Payroll connector.
- Find the row for the Employee entity.
- Check the Errors column for that entity row. A non-zero count means at least one error was logged; open the errors list for that entity.
- In the errors list, find the row for the employee in question using the employee's FriendlyIdentifier, then match on the fixed sentence text. All twelve messages in this article are fixed text with no inserted values, so match the sentence exactly.
- For every message in this article, the Failures count is not expected to move. The employee still writes successfully and still counts as Added or Updated; only that employee's direct deposits are withheld. Do not use the Failures count to look for these issues; check the Errors count instead.
Resolving the Error
Missing Fields on a Direct Deposit
Covers the Start Date, Account Type, Account Number and Routing Number, Amount or Percentage, and Priority messages.
- In the source system, open the employee's direct deposit records.
- For the field named in the message, enter a value on every direct deposit that needs one. The Start Date check looks at every deposit on the record, including inactive or expired ones; the other field checks look only at active, non-expired deposits.
- Save the change in the source system.
- Re-run the sync and confirm the employee no longer appears in the Errors list for this message.
Priority Order
Covers the sequential priority, multiple Full Amount (Net), and Full Amount (Net) priority messages.
- In the source system, list the employee's active direct deposits in priority order.
- Renumber the Priority field on each so the values run 1, 2, 3, and so on with no gaps or repeats.
- Confirm only one deposit is marked Full Amount (Net), and that it has the last Priority number in the sequence.
- Save the change and re-run the sync, then confirm the employee no longer appears in the Errors list for this message.
Amount Versus Percentage Rules
Covers the mixed deposit type, percentages summing to 100%, percentages summing under 100% with a Full Amount (Net) deposit, and missing Full Amount (Net) with flat amounts messages.
- In the source system, decide whether the employee's direct deposits use flat Amounts or Percentages. Do not mix flat amounts with partial percentages; the only allowed mix is flat amounts plus one Full Amount (Net) deposit.
- If using Percentages only, confirm they add up to exactly 100% across the employee's active deposits.
- If one deposit is marked Full Amount (Net), confirm the other deposits' Percentages add up to under 100%, so the combined total stays under 200%.
- If any deposit uses a flat Amount, confirm exactly one deposit is marked Full Amount (Net).
- Save the change and re-run the sync, then confirm the employee no longer appears in the Errors list for this message.
When to Escalate
If any of the following occur, you may need to reach out to Arcoro support for additional assistance.
- The error persists in the next sync after the direct deposit fields, priority order, and amount or percentage rules have all been corrected and confirmed in the source system.
- The message text in the log does not match any message in this article exactly.
- A direct deposit is missing from Payroll, but no error is listed for that employee. Escalate with the exact employee FriendlyIdentifier and the Errors, Warnings, and Information counts for that entity row, since another cause outside this article, such as the Direct Deposits scope not being enabled, the employee being terminated, or the deposit being filtered out as inactive or expired, may be involved.
- You cannot make the correction yourself because you do not have access to the source system that holds the direct deposit data.
